Largest eco sanctuary with organic architecture opens in Cavite

KAWAY’AN EcoPark, said to be the largest ecological sanctuary blending organic architecture, sustainable materials and community-led tourism in Luzon, was launched in General Trias, Cavite, on July 26. Set amid a thriving bamboo forest, the park features eco-pavilions, a lagoon by a bamboo bridge and cultural spaces that are built with minimal environmental impact.

Rosie Tsai, resident of Kaway’an Ecopark Development Inc., described the park as a “statement” and not just a destination. She said, “We’ve created a living, breathing example of how design, culture and sustainability can coexist in harmony.”

The presence of Elora Hardy and other principals from Ibuku Studio Bali, the globally acclaimed bamboo architecture firm behind Bali’s Green School, signaled international collaboration. Meanwhile, Sangay Architects, the local firm that assisted in the realization of the park’s innovative bamboo structures, emphasized the importance of Filipino heritage and climate-resilient design.

The park is now open to the public, with plans for event-hosting, ecotourism packages and guided tours later this year.
